About
What is the Wakanda Beyond Peer Action Group?
The Wakanda Beyond Peer Action Group is a network of 9 African CAAs and Ministries committed to exploring solutions to increase safety and security around UAV technology through a holistic and locally adapted approach. Over the past year, the group has proactively tested solutions, shared findings, and adopted and adapted best practices.
This website presents some of the tools and resources developed during this year-long endeavor. Additionally, it highlights the future impact opportunities that the PAG intends to prioritize in the upcoming phase of the program.
The Wakanda Beyond Peer Action Group builds on concrete solutions identified in a discussion paper written by the Drones Doing Good Alliance in collaboration with Endeva e.V., and the UKaid funded Frontier Technologies Hub.

Wakanda Beyond Member Countries
In June 2023, countries launched their experimentation in a range of areas, including Registration, Airspace Separation, Live Tracking, Drone Corridors, and Unmanned Air System Traffic Management (UTM).
As part of the process, countries participated in kick-off sessions to unpack the root causes of challenges in their contexts and identify key features of their desired solutions. Since then, they have participated in regular coaching sessions where they share progress and coaches provide guidance, problem-solving support, and technical advisory input.
Why we created Wakanda Beyond
CAAs are under significant pressure to enable the use of drones for good, but they must also ensure safety and security despite the fast evolving nature of the technology. Wakanda Beyond supports African CAAs as they work to develop effective and safe drone regulations.

Wakanda Beyond | Phase 2
Success and Vision for Phase Two
Building on the accomplishments of its initial phase, Wakanda Beyond is advancing into a second phase, informed by pivotal learnings and insights. Member countries have identified 6 challenge areas they want to focus on. This section offers resources for funding partners. These include lessons from phase one and opportunity areas for collaboration for phase two.
Phase 2 Challenges
Member countries have identified six challenge areas they want to focus on during phase 2 of Wakanda Beyond. We've categorized four of these challenge areas as 'quick wins,' and two as major projects that will likely require significant time and resources to address.
Fund a Challenge
Join Our Alliance: Leverage your investment
Wakanda Beyond excels in creating strategic alliances that amplify impact and leverage funding through collaborative efforts. By joining the alliance, new funding partners can maximize their contributions and help achieve critical systemic changes.
Drones have the potential to greatly contribute to the SDGs, creating jobs and growing businesses that solve challenges in agriculture, climate solutions, logistics, and much more. However, without an enabling environment, this potential will be drastically reduced. Our approach is demand-driven and tackles some of the most critical challenges that can unlock this potential.
Our Track Record: Proven Partnerships, Tangible Outcomes
In our first phase, we successfully created an alliance with these organizations:
-
Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO): UKAID provided essential financial backing through FCDO.
-
Smart Africa’s Digital Academy (SADA): Facilitated engagement and co-funding in African member countries.
-
Frontier Technologies Hub: Offered co-implementation support.
-
GIZ: Funded our launch event in Germany.
Here is how to get involved:
By joining now, partners can build on the previous work and help create tangible changes that can play a critical role in unlocking the full potential of drones in Africa by creating a more enabling environment.
